Returning the Blood to the Earth

The Way of The Priestess

Connecting to the Cycles and The Goddess

Returning the Blood to the Earth

There is a power and a mystery to our earthly connection. The links of nature are raw and unbroken, opening us to the lightness of a flower in spring, and equally with the decay of the autumn leaf litter, and all that was once living that now rests beneath it. One supports the other, in a cycle eternal as the way that we know time.

And then there is blood. A powerful reminder that we are alive. That which links families, and has been considered a worthy offering in cultures past, to the gods and goddesses of the people of many lands due to the potency of this representation of all that is living, and the essence within it of life force itself. We are born covered in blood, and it moves through us every moment we are breathing. And with every moon, the earth that nourishes us, can receive it back from us in a way that is sacred and true.

Our feminine cycles allow us a blood that is naturally released from us, and by embracing this, and honoring it as a sacred time, while also allowing our unused life force of that month, which contains the energy of all that has been occuring in our lives as it built there, it can be released not just physically, but through intention, released on many levels of our being… including mental, emotional, energetic, and spiritual. While embracing this sacred release, this letting go, and welcoming of a new month of fresh energies, we allow our actual life force to be given to our connection with the earth, and her spirit, the Goddess. This strengthens us in ways that can only be described through experience, and will touch each life uniquely based on your own relationship with Her.

First returning my blood to the earth was a precious moment. My sense of my past ties to Avalon grew thick as I buried an organic cotton tampon in the woods behind where I lived, a special little corner that was just for me out there. Silent, save for the fae and the birds who were watching, seeming to scamper through branches and chirrup in a celebration of sorts above. While now, I use a cup, and can pour it into a sacred vessel before taking it outside, whatever method you have available will suffice for this practice.

In the days that followed, the feeling I got was enormous… that almost overwhelming sense of being more than what you are; when the feeling of the trees that surround you (even when sitting indoors) is like being in a room filled with dear friends who are carrying your burdens, like warriors slinging them over their shoulders, the honored wounded who will be finally laid to rest… along with a nurturing sense that the great Mother, a face of our earth’s spirit herself, truly, the Goddess, was enveloping me, and the rains that lasted three days cried a sweet release of my recent loss and sorrow… the sense… that nothing ever again had to be processed alone.

It hasn’t always been possible, due to living situations, to return my blood to the earth. But when I have, it has been clearly very well organized by a design that I am a small part of, and the results are always the same. Strong rains. Tremendous enveloping support. And very strong change.

This is the first time in a year that this has been occuring. Nearly one week following a new moon that brought so much prosperity. So much connection. And a deep and intense knowing that it was time to delve into my priestess essence, my connection with the Goddess. A candle magick ritual. The rebirth of a sacred wand that had been dormant for years. And the introduction of sacred oils hand-crafted by a sacred sister that had been long on their way. And the first intentions written at the new moon since before moving into this space.

I’m collecting rainwater, as the storms had begun days ago. And they always continue to come. The healing I’ve been processing has been a journey of a few months, and my inner stability has reached a point that is firm as stone, a true foundation to build upon, and for the first time in my life, I know that I can trust it to support me, from deep within my own essence.

If you are a witch, are a priestess, are a goddess in your own right (which, if you resonate with any of what I’ve shared here, you are, despite titles), know your power is true, and deepen it through your relationship to the elements around you.

Let the moon guide your movements. Let the blood of your womb be given to the earth that birthed you. Because our connection is our strength. And when we give of our sacred life force, She, in her greatness, gives of hers, to our truest path in devotion to our calling in her world.

This is the way of the priestess. The way of true life. Knowing that within these cycles of life and death, we are. Eternal. We are one. That the Goddess flows within us as our power and life force, and that we, as a part of the sacred cycles of earth, flow throughout Her.
Strengthen the connection. And you’ll be amazed. Blessed be, sisters… goddesses of the earth and moon.
